5 TIPS FOR BUYING PATIO STONES
Stone expert Thomas Schubert gives 5 valuable tips for buying natural stones for patios and gardens. In his terrace and wall exhibitionat the Steinzentrum in Vienna, interested parties can also look at and walk around terrace stones outside opening hours.
1. make an appointment with the consultant.
Take plans, colour samples or photos of existing elements with you. A consultation and a precise needs analysis with an expert will save you a lot of time and hassle.
2. look at large areas.
Be sure to take a look at natural stone on large-scale sample surfaces outdoors. This is the only way to see how the stone really looks in daylight when laid in various ways, how it performs outdoors after weathering and how it feels. Small samples or photos alone are often not informative enough.
Pay attention to the surface of the stone.
For entrance areas or pool areas, the surface of the stone should be roughened to make it slip-resistant. The colour also plays a major role. Light-coloured natural stones do not heat up due to the sun and are particularly suitable for walking barefoot.
4. ask for reference projects in Austria.
Only through reference projects can you be sure that the natural stone is frost-proof and has proven itself in our climate.
5. choose the right publisher.
Choose an installer who has experience with the particular natural stone you have chosen. Many installers underestimate the special features of the respective materials.
Tip for large construction projects:
Choose a natural stone of which there are pool edges, steps, facing bricks and wall stones in addition to floor slabs for indoor and outdoor areas to create a uniform and harmonious ambience. For areas that can be driven on, paving stones in the same colour tone or as a contrast are suitable.
