Managing Director Thomas Schubert - structural engineer and master stonemason
Thomas Schubert, born in 1962, has been working in the family business since 1981. He joined his parents' small family business with rented historical buildings in Breitenfurter Straße at the age of 19 and, in the decades that followed, played a key role in turning the small trading company with 5 employees into SCHUBERT STONE - DAS STEINZENTRUM with 20 employees. The following is a look back at how Thomas Schubert contributed to SCHUBERT STONE. Thomas Schubert's long-standing and experienced consultants are happy to support clients and architects in the selection and combination of suitable natural stone and engineered stone for interiors and exteriors as well as parquet in interiors. They specialize in creating "material collages" for the respective project with sample panels on sample surfaces and professionally showing and designing the interfaces between stone and wood. Individual training courses, e.g. by a color consultant, constantly train the specialist consultants in their ability to respond to the individual wishes of the clients.
2018 In spring 2018, a unique, spacious Technostein experience exhibition will be installed as a studio in the consultation center. Various generously laid floor and wall surfaces with large format slabs up to 320x160cm show the charisma of Technostein in use. A separate Technostein terrace exhibition will be realized outdoors. Visitors can view the various terrace floors on large surfaces in daylight and even walk on them barefoot. A Technostein façade shows the technology behind the laying of 320x160cm slabs.
2016 Over the last few decades, Thomas Schubert has built up a competent team for all areas of the modern company. 3 out of 15 employees have been with the company for more than 15 years.
2007 Thomas Schubert becomes the sole owner of SCHUBERT STONE.
2006 Thomas Schubert includes high-quality wood parquet and chateau planks in its product range as a combination with stone. This parquet is mainly of European origin. This makes the STEINZENTRUM a unique place where clients can easily select and combine natural stone, engineered stone and parquet flooring of the highest quality for all living areas.
1996 Until 2016, Thomas Schubert's STEINZENTRUM is gradually expanded into THE MEETING PLACE for private builders. The business is extensively renovated in the following years. The historic buildings, some with exposed brickwork, provide a charming ambience in which to showcase fine natural products on a large scale. Thomas Schubert installs a floor slab and large slab showroom and an open-air and indoor exhibition of over 2000 types of natural stone, engineered stone and parquet on 2000 m, which is unique in the German-speaking world.2 Exhibition space for the furnishing of private houses, villas, gardens and apartments.
1995 Thomas Schubert becomes Managing Director of the company.

From 1997 the stonemasonry workshop is rebuilt and brought up to date. With the new bridge saw and the automatic edging machine, natural stone for kitchens, bathrooms, steps and pool edges is processed in large quantities to a high standard. As a stone expert, Thomas Schubert is also a specialist consultant and responds individually to the most diverse wishes of his prospective customers. On his international business trips, Thomas Schubert tracks down new products and sets new trends for his market in the residential sector and for outdoor installations with natural stone and engineered stone. In September 2000 Villa Schubert opens after a 2-year renovation phase. Large stone floors and stone steps show the effect of stone in the room on two floors. In addition to the exhibition of historical stone slabs, an event cellar is installed in the brick cellar, which has since been rented out in the evenings and at weekends.
2004 Thomas Schubert founds the "HOMElinks.at" platform with a number of entrepreneurs from the construction, furnishing and gardening sectors, who all carry out projects for private clients to the same high standard. In the STEINZENTRUM you can see various products from the HOMElinks.at partners in use: Wooden box frame windows, burglar-resistant glass, all-glass elements, period doors, flush doors, wall fillings in several designs, a historic wine cellar with original old bricks, a show garden and historic lanterns.
2002 Thomas Schubert adds the robust and indestructible TECHNOSTEIN (high-quality porcelain stoneware) to the collection in order to meet today's requirements for different materials in construction projects. The techno stones come directly from Italy, Spain and Portugal from various suppliers in many varieties.
2001 Thomas Schubert installs the open-air terrace exhibition with natural stone in the courtyard and front garden. At any time of year (even when it is raining or wet), visitors can walk on large areas of stone laid in daylight and see authentically how the various stone floors change slightly after years of weathering and still look good.

1995 After further training, Thomas Schubert passed the master stonemason examination in order to learn the complex and traditional craft of stonemasonry himself.
1992 The company sets up its own stonemasonry workshop with skilled workers. Together with his parents, Thomas Schubert buys the entire property at the same location (a total of 3500 m2 of land with 2000 m2 of historical buildings) in Breitenfurter Straße, which is twice as large, with additional halls and open spaces. Together with his parents, he lays the foundation stone for today's STEINZENTRUM.
1989 Thomas Schubert starts storing large slabs of fine granite, marble, quartzite and onyx. A display warehouse is set up in the historic warehouse for this purpose. Initially, the production of kitchen slabs is still outsourced.

1988 Thomas Schubert establishes many new international supplier relationships. He regularly visits international production sites and several quarries of long-standing partners to track down new trends and new materials. Highest quality, reasonable prices and fair working conditions during production are the highest criteria when purchasing. The natural stones come directly from the manufacturers in Turkey, Spain, Croatia, Germany, France, Egypt, Portugal and Italy. Direct and well-maintained personal trading relationships with the producers make it possible to offer many products exclusively, which are sold throughout Europe at moderate prices as direct imports without intermediaries. In 2016, direct purchases were made from over 100 suppliers worldwide.

Since 1986 Thomas Schubert and his family visit many monuments made of stone abroad (Morocco, Spain, Italy, Germany, Egypt, Israel, Portugal, France, Romania, USA, Czech Republic, Greece, Croatia, Belgium, Holland, England, Ireland, Hungary, Turkey) to see and study the use of stone.

Thomas Schubert completed the second semester of his business studies at WU Vienna early, as he was needed in the family business at the time.
1982 Thomas Schubert realized that a small in-house installation team could not meet the demands of larger projects. At that time, he founded a network of expert installation partners. Over the last few decades, these high-quality laying experts have repeatedly been brought up to the latest technical standards. As a result, many challenging projects have also been realized abroad. In total, more than 20,000 satisfied customers have been served since 1973, resulting in many high-quality reference projects. Some long-standing customers also referred their children to SCHUBERT STONE and realized further projects with SCHUBERT STONE.
Thomas Schubert was influenced by his building construction training at the HTL Mödling and his experience on construction sites. He also accompanied his parents on business trips to quarries at an early age, where his passion for stone materials was sparked.
