Natural stone for the garden - harmonious and effective
Natural stone for the garden - harmonious and effective
The garden is a place of longing and promises relaxation from everyday life, regardless of whether it is small or takes up more space. This makes it all the more important to design the garden with elements that are visually coordinated. Terraces, paths, steps or walls made of natural stone play a fundamental role, but fountains and benches are also attractive design options. Because nothing harmonises so well with plants and lawn greenery as an original natural stone. Especially light-coloured types, such as the hard limestone Levante Crema or a travertine, allow the greenery of your garden to shine with particular effect. But what should you consider before buying a natural stone? And what design options are available with natural stone in the garden?
Natural stone in outdoor use - robust and slip-resistant
The basic rule is that the natural stone should be suitable for outdoor use. This is mainly associated with properties such as robustness, weather resistance and frost resistance, but the surface finish of the stone can also be decisive for its further use. Natural stone with an unpolished and slightly non-slip surface remains non-slip even when wet and damp. It is also very pleasant to walk on barefoot and is therefore ideally suited for outdoor use. Also consider which elements in your garden you would like to design with natural stone. If your garden already has stones in paths or stairs, it is worth considering the choice very carefully. After all, older and new elements should blend in visually to create a uniform image. The colour of the exterior walls of your house can also play a role.

Garden design with natural stone - walls and stairs
Natural stone is not just a material for designing your garden - it is a clear statement to a durable and very original natural product. Because natural stone gives your stairs, terrace or paths an individual flair that can range from classic to Mediterranean. Especially for stairs, walls and paths, many design options are open to you. For example, walls can be built from gneiss, quarry stone or granite. Each stone has a different and special effect in its combination. System walls made of limestone, travertine and crystal marble are also possible and offer individual solutions through the work of the stonemason. You can also combine different natural stones to create a charming ambience.
Natural stone is natural stone - Roland Falb is also convinced of this. The patio slabs and steps in his garden were originally made of concrete and were now to be replaced by a more visually sophisticated natural stone that also matched the colour scheme of the house. After a comprehensive consultation, Mr Falb decided on a white-grey-blue to yellow crystal marble.
This very light-coloured natural stone not only impresses with its pleasant and naturally rough surface, but also with its weather-dependent discolouration. In sunny weather, the stone floor shines in light nuances from white to light grey or yellow and thus creates a summery, cheerful ambience. When it rains, on the other hand, this natural stone takes on a dark colouring in light to dark grey. This has a very natural and simply unmistakable effect.
The natural stone is, as Mr Falb puts it, "naturally grown" and offers a wonderful sight due to its colour shades. But also walking, and especially barefoot walking, on the slightly rough crystal marble feels wonderfully natural and shows that natural stone is an absolutely convincing quality product.
A natural stone for stairs must be able to bear many loads every day and also be extremely weather-resistant. Granite, crystal marble or even limestone are therefore suitable for stone stairs. These natural stones are not only robust, but also easy to maintain and look beautiful and inviting for a long time. You can design staircases ranging from classic to modern and simple to sweeping and ostentatious. The individual stone slabs are usually between 3.8 cm and 5.7 cm thick, so they can withstand the stresses and strains. When planning your staircase, also make sure that a smooth flow of movement is guaranteed when climbing the stairs and that the steps are easy to walk on.

Pathways and decorative elements
Especially in the area of paths, natural stone offers many possibilities. Here you can design large, but also small areas to suit your garden. With the different variations in laying natural stone - traditional or modern - with different sized stones or even colours, you can conjure up a unique style in any garden. Decorative elements made of natural stone, such as fountains or benches, round off your garden perfectly. Here, too, the following applies: If natural stone is already present, the colour of the decorative elements should be oriented towards the stones that have already been laid or processed in order to create a harmonious overall picture.
