Terrace made of natural stone - What to consider? - Here are tips from the pros
Especially in spring and summer, when nature awakens, people are drawn out onto the terrace or into the garden. Terraces and paths designed with natural stone are not only an eye-catcher or passing trend, but also offer versatile advantages - in all seasons. But not all natural stone is the same. Each stone has its own colour and properties. Not every natural stone is suitable for patios, outdoor steps or garden design. In addition, natural stone is a very durable and original, sometimes even idiosyncratic material that requires good planning and professional workmanship. So there is a lot to consider when designing with natural stone.
Good advice - right from the start
Good things take time, as the saying goes. Take the time for a competent and comprehensive consultation. After all, you want to enjoy your terrace for many years. Select your natural stone in an outdoor exhibition, as the visual effect of the natural stone often only really unfolds on a larger surface in daylight. Here you can also see how the stones withstand the weather.
Natural stone is, as the name suggests, a natural product. Different colourings are precisely what make this material so attractive. In principle, a light-coloured natural stone is recommended for outdoor use, as it does not heat up in the sun and radiates a pleasant Mediterranean ambience. However, other colours are also possible depending on the type of use. Do you want to extend existing elements? Then it is important to carry out a precise analysis so that you get exactly the natural stone that perfectly complements your terrace. We will be happy to help you with this.
In our generously designed terrace and wall exhibition in our outdoor area, you can get many design ideas and also walk on the stones barefoot.
Natural stone for your terrace
In addition to the appearance, the nature of the natural stone also plays a role. The choice of natural stone should always be based on the subsequent use, i.e. whether the stone is to be used for a terrace, stairs, a garden path or for the entrance or border of a pool. Basically, the natural stone for outdoor use should be robust, weatherproof and non-slip. This is the only way to guarantee that the terrace is safe to step on in all seasons and weather conditions and that the natural stone will last for a long time. In addition, natural stones with a rough surface offer a unique wellness effect, as they are extremely pleasant to walk on barefoot. Smooth or polished stone materials are rather used indoors and here also only in dry areas, i.e. not near swimming pools or similar. Profit from our experience! Since we work with different types of natural stone every day, we know each material very well and can make statements about the weather resistance and durability of the natural stone in our climate zone. This concerns especially the frost resistance as well as longevity of the natural stone. See for yourself and visit our terrace exhibition in the Schubert Stone Stone Centre.
Each natural stone has its own unique character, not only in terms of colour or surface texture, but also in terms of the requirements for installation. Some types of stone require special treatment, as they can easily break during processing. Preparatory measures, e.g. drainage, should also always be carried out by a professional. Depending on whether you want to design a ground-level garden terrace or a roof terrace with natural stone, the substrate design also varies. Professional installers ensure that the natural stone is laid in a manner appropriate to the species and that construction standards are adhered to.
Levante Crema - the perfect natural stone for your terrace
Levante Crema is probably one of the most popular natural stones. You can use it for patios, gardens or pool entrances outdoors as well as for interior floor design. Levante Crema is available in various finishes. Sandblasted or antique, this limestone unfolds its properties and effectiveness above all in outdoor areas. Due to the pre-treatment, the sandblasted natural stone is lighter than other limestones and, with its elegant cream tone, appears Mediterranean and modern at the same time. In addition, the sandblasted Levante Crema has a slightly rough surface that makes walking barefoot safe and very pleasant.
An additional impregnation protects the natural stone from discolouration and stains - this makes the surface of your terrace robust and easy to maintain. The Levante Crema antique offers all the advantages of a natural stone already mentioned and is equally suitable for designing a terrace. However, this material is processed by a special procedure so that it appears visually older, hence the name "antique". The natural stone has a rather beige tone and develops its special visual effect on larger surfaces.
