Technostein manufacturing process
For the production of SCHUBERT TECHNOSTEIN, selected, extremely hard natural rocks are used: the main components are natural quartz and feldspar and some kaolin. The individual raw materials are first ground finer than flour in large mills and mixed with a binding agent, formed into slabs and dried. Then the slabs are pressed in hydraulic presses with a force of up to 10,000 tonnes into slabs of various formats and layer thicknesses.
The "sintering" of the material takes place in a long kiln, the precise and gradual guidance of the firing cycle with a maximum temperature of 1,200° Celsius enable the creation of a new material with an extraordinary hardness and compactness. As the added raw material feldspar has a relatively low melting point, almost complete sintering without open pores occurs during firing. Each slab is inspected twice at the end of the production process. Electronic sensors check the dimensions, trained personnel inspect the material and assess the aesthetic and colour aspects.
