Managing Director Thomas Schubert - Structural engineer and master stonemason
Thomas Schubert, born in 1962, has been working in the family business since 1981. He joined his parents' small family business with rented historic buildings in Breitenfurter Straße at the age of 19. In the decades that followed, he made a significant contribution to turning the small trading company with 5 employees into SCHUBERT STONE - DAS STEINZENTRUM with 20 employees. In the following, you will learn in retrospect how Thomas Schubert contributed to SCHUBERT STONE. The experienced consultants trained by Thomas Schubert are happy to support clients and architects in the selection and combination of suitable natural stone and technostone for interior and exterior use, as well as parquet flooring for interiors. They are specialised in creating "material collages" for the respective project with sample boards on sample surfaces and in professionally showing and designing the interfaces between stone and wood. Individual training courses, e.g. by a colour consultant, constantly educate the consultants in their ability to respond to the individual wishes of the building owners.

2018 In spring 2018, a unique, spacious Technostein experience exhibition will be installed as a studio in the consultation centre. Various generously laid floor and wall surfaces with large-format slabs up to 320x160cm show the charisma of Technostein in application. Outside, a separate Technostein terrace exhibition will be realised. Visitors can view the various terrace floors on large surfaces in daylight and also walk on them barefoot. A Technostein façade shows the technology behind the laying of 320x160cm slabs.
2016 Over the past decades, Thomas Schubert has built up a competent team for all areas of the modern company. 3 out of 15 employees have been with the company for more than 15 years.
2007 Thomas Schubert becomes sole owner of SCHUBERT STONE.
2006 Thomas Schubert includes high-quality wood parquet and castle floorboards in the product range as a combination with stone. This parquet is mainly of European origin. The STEINZENTRUM thus becomes a unique place where builders can conveniently select and combine natural stone, technostone as well as parquet at the highest level for all living areas.
From1996 to 2016, Thomas Schubert's STEINZENTRUM is successively expanded to become THE MEETING POINT for private builders. The business is extensively renovated in the following years. The historic buildings, some with exposed brickwork, are a charming ambience in which to display fine natural products on a large scale. Thomas Schubert installs a floor slab and large slab showroom and an open-air and indoor exhibition of more than 2000 types of natural stone, technostone and parquet on 2000m2 of exhibition space, which is unique in the German-speaking world, for furnishing private houses, villas, gardens and flats.
In1995 Thomas Schubert becomes managing director of the company.

From 1997 onwards, the stonemasonry workshop is rebuilt and brought up to date. With the new bridge saw and the automatic edging machine, natural stones for kitchens, bathrooms, steps and pool edges are processed in large numbers to a high standard. As a stone expert, Thomas Schubert is also a specialist consultant and responds individually to the most diverse wishes of his prospective customers. On his international business trips, Thomas Schubert tracks down new products and sets new trends for his market in the living area and for outdoor installations with natural stone and technostone. In September 2000, Villa Schubert is opened after a 2-year renovation phase. Large-scale stone floors and stone steps show the effect of stone in space on 2 floors. In addition to the exhibition of historical stone slabs, an event cellar is installed in the brick cellar, which has since been rented out in the evenings and at weekends.
In 2004, Thomas Schubert founded the platform "HOMElinks.at" with a number of entrepreneurs from the building, furnishing and gardening industry, who all carry out projects for private builders at the same high level. In the STEINZENTRUM you can see various products of the HOMElinks.at partners in use: Wooden box storey windows, burglar-resistant glass, all-glass elements, style doors, flush doors, wall fillings in some designs, a historic wine cellar with original old bricks, a show garden and historic lanterns.
In2002, Thomas Schubert adds the robust and indestructible TECHNOSTEIN, (high-quality porcelain stoneware), to the collection in order to meet today's requirements of different materials in construction projects. The technostones come directly from Italy, Spain and Portugal from various suppliers in many varieties.
In 2001, Thomas Schubert installed the open-air terrace exhibition with natural stones in the inner courtyard and front garden. At any time of the year (even when it is raining and wet), interested parties can walk on large areas of laid stone in daylight and see authentically how the various stone floors change slightly after years of weathering and still look good.

1995 Thomas Schubert passed the master stonemason's examination after further training in order to also learn the complex and traditional stonemason's craft himself.
1992 an own stonemasonry workshop with skilled workers is established. Thomas Schubert, together with his parents, buys the entire property, which is twice as large, at the same location (a total of 3500m2 of land with 2000 m2 of historic buildings) in Breitenfurter Straße with additional halls and open spaces. Together with his parents, he lays the foundation stone for today's STEINZENTRUM.
1989 Thomas Schubert starts storing precious large slabs of granite, marble, quartzite and onyx. A display warehouse is set up for this purpose in the historic warehouse. At the beginning, the production of kitchen slabs is still outsourced.

In 1988, Thomas Schubert establishes many new international supplier relationships. He regularly visits international production sites and several quarries of long-standing partners to track down new trends and new materials. Highest quality, favourable prices and fair working conditions during production are the highest criteria when purchasing. The natural stones come directly from the manufacturers in Turkey, Spain, Croatia, Germany, France, Egypt, Portugal and Italy. Direct and well-maintained personal trade relations with the producers make it possible to offer many products exclusively, which are sold throughout Europe at moderate prices in direct import without intermediaries. In 2016, direct purchases were made from over 100 suppliers worldwide.

Since 1986 Thomas Schubert and his family have visited many stone monuments abroad (Morocco, Spain, Italy, Germany, Egypt, Israel, Portugal, France, Romania, USA, Czech Republic, Greece, Croatia, Belgium, Holland, England, Ireland, Hungary, Turkey) to see and study stones in their application.

Thomas Schubert finished his commercial science studies at the WU Vienna in the 2nd section early, as he was needed in the family business at the time.
In 1982, Thomas Schubert realised that a small in-house installation team could not meet the demands of larger projects. At that time, he founded a network of expert installation partners. Over the past decades, these high-quality installation experts have been repeatedly brought up to the latest technical standards. As a result, many demanding projects have also been realised abroad. In total, more than 20,000 satisfied customers have been served since 1973, resulting in many high-quality reference projects. Some long-standing customers also referred their children to SCHUBERT STONE and realised even more projects with SCHUBERT STONE.
Formative for Thomas Schubert was his structural engineering training at the HTL Mödling and his construction site experience. He also accompanied his parents on business trips to quarries at an early age, where his passion for stone materials was kindled.
