Living with marble - the rediscovery of a unique material
Natural stone marble - the rediscovery of a unique material
When you hear the word marble, you first think of coldness, heaviness, ostentation and splendour. But at present, this natural stone is not only conquering designer exhibitions, but is also celebrating its rediscovery in everyday living culture. Especially in times of digital friends and stored data in virtual clouds, people long for something tangible and lasting - and this is also reflected in the choice of living materials. Especially since the quarrying of marble is still hard work today and, despite modern equipment, is partly done by hand. The natural stone marble thus combines several properties. On the one hand, it offers a wonderfully cool and smooth surface to touch and feel, and on the other hand, marble is considered a millennia-old material that lasts a very long time and carries a hint of eternity. Quite apart from the haptic experience, i.e. feeling it with your hands, marble surprises with its varied appearance and promises something individual and unique.
Luxury marble bathroom by Schubert Stone
This fabulously beautiful marble bathroom in an elegant inner-city flat in Vienna sets new standards in the field of luxury bathrooms. With perfect craftsmanship and the highest level of artistry, a dreamlike wellness oasis was created that meets the very highest standards in aesthetics and modern bathroom technology.
The specifications were simple and difficult at the same time: "It should be beautiful", the client formulated his maxim. In close cooperation with the client and the interior designer, the experts from the Schubert Steinzentrum implemented this specification down to the smallest detail. The costs were unlimited, and there were no limits to the imagination and freedom of design. The marble was personally selected by managing director Thomas Schubert with the greatest care in a centuries-old French quarry, whose stone was already used to decorate Versailles Palace. An 80 square metre block was cut into mirrored slabs and then polished. Using the highest local stonemasonry skills, the result was the timelessly beautiful marble bathroom, which perfectly combines the opulent joie de vivre and aesthetics of historic Vienna with a modern philosophy of life.
Marble - original and natural
Marble is a metamorphic rock that is formed in the earth's interior from carbonate-rich rock, such as limestone, under great pressure and high temperatures. This natural stone comes in a versatile range of colours. Its colours range from light beige and yellow-brown to delicate pink tones and strong reds to classic grey and deep black. Today, marble is quarried mainly in Europe, Turkey and Iran. Probably the best-known quarrying site is in Carrara, Italy. Here, the blocks are cut out of the quarry with a water-cooled diamond rope and loosened by hand with iron rods and then transported away by truck. But it is precisely this traditional method of quarrying an original and beautiful material that seems to fascinate many people.
Marble - a story of exclusivity
Even the ancient Greeks used their marble for particularly magnificent and honourable buildings and statues, such as parts of the Acropolis or various ancient representations of the gods, thus making marble an exclusive stone. Even later, in the Roman Empire, the use of white marble for busts was reserved exclusively for gods and the emperor and his family, who were worshipped like gods. Many famous works of art have been created from marble over the centuries, magnificent houses and gardens have been decorated with this unique natural stone. Marble is still used today - and has thus made the leap from an exclusive material for gods and emperors to the modern home.
CRYSTAL MARBLE IN THE HOUSE OF ROLAND FALB
Natural stone is natural stone - Roland Falb is also convinced of this. The patio slabs and steps in his garden were originally made of concrete and were now to be replaced by a more visually sophisticated natural stone that also matched the colour scheme of the house. After a comprehensive consultation, Mr Falb decided on a white-grey-blue to yellow crystal marble.
This very light-coloured natural stone not only impresses with its pleasant and naturally rough surface, but also with its weather-dependent discolouration. In sunny weather, the stone floor shines in light nuances from white to light grey or yellow and thus creates a summery, cheerful ambience. When it rains, on the other hand, this natural stone takes on a dark colouring in light to dark grey. This has a very natural and simply unmistakable effect.
The natural stone is, as Mr Falb puts it, "naturally grown" and offers a wonderful sight due to its colour shades. But also walking, and especially barefoot walking, on the slightly rough crystal marble feels wonderfully natural and shows that natural stone is an absolutely convincing quality product.
MARMOR - Indoor use
In the interior, marble is mainly used for bathrooms, floors, as a mural, fireplace cladding or kitchen worktop. Indoor fountains or luxurious wall cladding made of marble are also possible, as this example shows. If you want to use marble only discreetly or as an eye-catcher, you can use a washstand or window sills made of this natural stone. Sometimes designers also create furniture with marble or a marble coating and use the natural stone only selectively. After all, marble is one of the most precious natural stones there is and should therefore also fit into the design of the house or flat without literally overwhelming the observer. This marble floor is particularly elegant, simple and timeless, proving that this natural stone is an all-rounder. Underfloor heating creates cosy warmth and invites you to walk barefoot.
Large unique marble slabs as pictures on the wall. Millions of years old works of art from nature.
In addition to the use of natural stone for floors, stairs and terraces, stone slabs can also function as fascinating wall decorations. This is because every natural stone offers an individual structure, colour and also feel. The customer in the video was looking for large-scale pictures. After consulting Schubert Stone, she decided on two different stones. The first wall decoration consists of an assembly of two stone slabs placed one behind the other. This gives the natural stone the appearance of being "opened up" and creates an impressive image with a very individual character. The greenish marbled colouring also gives the wall decoration a somewhat cool, but definitely lively look. The second, smaller stone is in brown tones and has a rather warm ambience. The customer is particularly enthusiastic about the radiance and the surface of this stone, as every natural stone feels unique.
REFERENCE - INLAY FLOOR IN VIENNA LUXURY FLAT
In this city flat, the client wanted an exclusive floor in marquetry design with selected Spanish limestones that harmonised with each other. According to the architect's design, the floor was precisely cut using water jet technology. After installation, the entire floor was grouted, sanded over and polished to a completely even finish.
CRYSTAL MARBLE - Exterior use
A few types of crystal marble are more frost-proof, making them perfect for outdoor stairs, patio slabs and pool surrounds. Benches and decorative elements made of marble are also possible outdoors. This dense crystal marble naturally absorbs little water and is pleasantly slip-resistant in the special "fine-rough" finish. So water, rain and frost cannot harm the crystal marble. The example of an exterior design shows that especially larger patio areas and paths with crystal marble have a noble but restrained effect. The slightly cloudy-grey colour of this marble conjures up a pleasant and flowing look without, however, being reminiscent of ostentation or showiness, and radiates warmth with its grey pastel tones. In addition, the light colouring of the crystal marble prevents the surfaces from heating up too much.

"Marble is a noble, unmistakable natural material from the cultural history of mankind. Through many years of use and foot traffic, marble acquires a pleasant "patina", as the floors in the Palace of Versailles and St. Peter's Church show. Marble unfolds its full beauty on walls through its mirror-like high-gloss polish. Marble murals are works of art of nature for your living room! Outdoors, crystal marble is in vogue with its delicate light grey pastel colours and its fine-rough, even surface as a "living room extension" on your terrace. Let yourself be enchanted by its diverse grains, drawings and structures!"
